A silver halide photographic material for use in the field of graphic arts and a process for forming a high-contrast negative image using the same, wherein the silver halide emulsion layer or another layer of the silver halide photographic material provided on the support contains at least one compound represented by the formula (I) and at least one blocked development restrainer compound represented by the formula (II): ##STR1##
