Cyclic amides of the general formula I ##STR1## where A is a group of the formula ##STR2## where in each case the left-hand free bond is linked to the amide nitrogen and the right-hand free bond, depending on the group, is a single or double bond, and where R.sup.7 to R.sup.12 are hydrogen, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkyl or phenyl, and R.sup.13 is one of the radicals R.sup.7 to R.sup.12 or hydroxyl,
