ABSTRACT:
Useful thionamide compounds are prepared by reacting sulfur with imines of the structural formula: ##STR1## where R is an alkyl group of 1 to 18 carbon atoms and is other than a phenyl or cyclohexyl group, R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 are alkyl or phenyl groups of 1 to 18 carbon atoms, and R.sub.3 is a phenyl group of 6 to 18 carbon atoms or is hydrogen, in the presence of a diol or triol compound. The total number of carbons in R, R.sub.1, R.sub.2, and R.sub.3 does not exceed 36 in number.
