ABSTRACT:
Disclosed is a method of producing high molecular weight copolymers from vinyl monomers such as vinylpyridine and styrene by emulsion polymerization which comprises combining the monomers with a particular surfactant, a polymerization initiator in an aqueous medium at a solids level of about 5-50% by weight, and carrying out the polymerization at a pH of about 10-14 at a temperature of about 45.degree.-90.degree. C. until the conversion is greater than 90%.
