ABSTRACT:
A novel process for the production of the valuable perfume material norpatchoulenol is disclosed which involves oxidatively decarboxylating an acid precursor according to the following reaction scheme: ##STR1## Intermediates for the synthesis, having the formula ##STR2## wherein R represents -COOH, CH.sub.2 OH or --CHO are also disclosed.
