ABSTRACT:
A discrete internal self-cooling device (106) installed in a standard beverage can (100) during assembly. An evaporative cryogenic refrigerant vessel (112) has a cylinder vent hole (118) formed through it near its upper rim (120) adjacent to cylinder (126). An upper plug (122) sealing (112) has off-set inner (123) and outer (125) metering orifice segments formed in it axially. Intersecting these segments, an automatic pressure actuated release means comprises a transverse plug cylinder (126) containing a pressure actuated piston (131) carrying two axially rotatable rings (133) which form a circular piston channel (135) that opens or closes orifice segments (123) and (125) depending on its alignment with them. Alternative piston and rings configurations are provided. A means for thermally insulating vessel (112) from can (110) is provided by thermal transfer fin-spacers (110).
