ABSTRACT:
A process is disclosed for producing 1,1,1,3,3,3-hexafluoropropane. The process involves contacting 1,1,1,3,3,3-hexachloropropane with hydrogen fluoride in the vapor phase at a temperature of from about 250.degree. C. to 400.degree. C. in the presence of a catalyst of trivalent chromium supported on carbon. The carbon has an ash content sufficiently low to produce CF.sub.3 CH.sub.2 CF.sub.3 with a selectivity of at least about 70 percent based upon the amount of 1,1,1,3,3,3-hexachloropropane reacted with HF.
