Methods of inhibiting the proliferation of keratinocytes and inflammation of the skin comprising administering to a human in need of treatment an effective amount of a compound that modifies the activity of the peroxisome proliferator activated receptor gamma (PPAR.gamma.) in skin; and pharmaceutically acceptable salts and solvates thereof.
